American Idol Boot Camp: bye-bye, Brooke
Who should get the boot this week?They say you shouldn’t kick a man (or woman) who is down. But you should definitely boot them when they’re forgetting their words, getting flustered at the slightest criticism and basically behaving as if they couldn’t survive one chorus of a John Denver song without spontaneously combusting into a fine mist of tears and hair-care product, let alone the trials of show business. Which means, obviously, bye-bye, Brooke. Take her home, folkie road!
Plus! Our ‘Idol’ Thought: It’s only words …
… and words are all you have to take the audience’s hearts away, if we may paraphrase the Bee Gees for a moment. Last week’s guest geezer Andrew Lloyd Webber was right on the money - you can’t capture a song if you don’t have a clue what you’re singing about. And that means that you have to listen to the words and try to figure out why you’d be singing it. Which means that the next time somebody sings, say, Whitney Houston’s affair-a-thon Saving All My Love For You, they shouldn’t sing it like they’re on the way to prom. Just a thought.
