Edison Chen, the Chinese Hong Kong singer-actor is trying to claim copyright over the hundreds of pictures circulating the internet of him having sex with starlets, a news report said Monday.
Edison Chen, 27, made a copyright infringement complaint to customs officials in Hong Kong in an effort to stop the pictures being shared over the internet, the South China Morning Post reported.
Starlets that are in the pictures were allegedly Gillian Chung, Bobo Chan, Cecilia Cheung, Rachel Ngan, Maggie Q, Mandy Chan and several other famous starlets.
Edison Chen, who announced Thursday he was quitting show business over the scandal, plans to leave Hong Kong for the US as soon as police no longer need his help, the newspaper said.
Hong Kong has been captivated for weeks by the scandal over the photos which were downloaded from Chen’s laptop and circulated after he took it in for repairs.
They show him apparently having sex with a string of young starlets including Twins singer Gillian Chung while using a video camera to record the intimate liaisons.
A 23-year-old computer technician, Sze Ho-chun, has been arrested for dishonest use of a computer and released on bail. Eight other people have been arrested and bailed for distributing pictures.
At a press conference last week, hours after returning to Hong Kong from the US, Chen admitted he took most of the pictures and apologized to the women involved before announcing his retirement from show business.
Edison Chen sex scandal over the pictures has soured the saccharine-sweet image of Hong Kong’s Canto-pop industry and potentially wrecked the careers not just of Chen but also of the women in the photographs.
I understand why he would want copyrights on the pictures but so many people have seen them already, it’s not like it would help.
And he doesn’t really have to leave HK even if he leaves the entertainment business, he still has CLOT and Juice!
Maybe he should have claimed the copyright from day one instead of running away tothe US for so long, maybe then not as many pics would have been released now.
The reason for the copyright is so that he can legally sue anyone who publicly post any of the picture even if part was censor or some part missing. This would reduce the spread of those picture and Im hoping that he would get it copyrigted ASAP.
I am glad EDC is doing something to stop the speard of those pictures..although it might not help much since so many have seen it already…but at least it is something to help “control” it. When did he said he going to leave after this whole thing is done? I don’t rmb ever hearing him said that. Probably for a break or something since this scandal is still “fresh.” I doubt it would be forever since he still have Clot and Juice.
noe alot of pics have been out already, but many more has yet to show cus dey said deres like 1300 of dem. and he has every right to do so. but i hope dat if he does come to the US, he could start a new life and try to forget the scandal thing. hope he comes close to frisco cus dats where i’ll be!!!
You are tooooo late Edison! Its in print, on discs etc. etc.
It will stop bloggers and things posting them images, but there is still something called File Sharing. Once something has been on the internet, it never really disappears again.
