Live Nation’s latest couple: Beyonce and Jay-Z Married?

So Jay-Z’s ditching his label and signing a comprehensive, historic $150 million deal with Live Nation, joining Madonna on the concert promoters’ roster. Can a co-headlined Best of Both Worlds album and tour from Madge and Jay be far behind? (Minus any unexpected macing, fingers crossed.) All kidding aside, as big as this deal is, it really just confirms what anyone who’s been paying any attention realized years ago: The old major-label power structure is passé (shocker), and big-time career artists can make waaaay more cash by touring than by recording CDs (double shocker). Still, it’s impressive that someone as entrenched in the system as Jay has come around on this. And it’s a smart move for sure on Live Nation’s part. Jay feels like a more contemporary voice than Madonna, even though he just told the New York Times that he’s become “the Rolling Stones of hip-hop.”

The question, as always, is how much of an effect this will really have on the rest of the industry — whether this has long-term ramifications for people who aren’t named Jay-Z. Every time a megastar signs one of these unorthodox deals, it feels more and more like the tide is shifting. But very few artists have fanbases big enough to justify a move like this, and something tells me Live Nation is not chomping at the bit to finance the next Memphis Bleek record. (Though I hope they prove me wrong — Bleek’s last single was not bad!) So? Maybe none of that matters. If this means Jay will continue releasing music (in whatever format) and touring more often in the next few years, I’ll be happy. How about you?

Why doesn’t anyone get it, jay can have just about anyone he wants, I would say he’s worth about 7-8 hundred million, be is latching on to him get it straight he has more money and a big Dic. Hell I think anyone smart enough would hold on to him too even if they make their own money, business is business and with out a prenup that’s a hell of a business deal.

Who cares about Jay-Z. All he ever does is rap about being a pimp and a drug dealer. Just listen to his latest song “Rock Boys”- I hope he uses his Nike shoe box to suffocate himself and finish. He is a worthless piece of shiiiiitttt.

I wish Live Nation would focus on the greatest rapper who ever lived, Eminem, a white guy who had to work 100 times as hard as anyone else to prove in a black male genre his superb chops.

I hope Jay Z will be finished from AIDS soon!

Wood: You obviously are not aware of Jay being in Africa and pleading with other countries to help the water crisis there. He gave his time and money to a cause that directly affects the live of Africans everyday. You can probably find it in the archives on MTV.COM. He went to many different villages and started a foundation that he donated 1 Million of his own money to in order to bring light to the situation.

Jay-Z and Beyounce have alot of money now, Why aren’t they helping with Africa!! Maybe too busy buying Bling!!!BULL!!

Good. This will underscore how the labels’ function — discovering, marketing and distributing music — has been taken over (or taken back) through the explosion of new person-to-person communications, and perhaps this thing called “music recorded for the studio” will be proven a brief fifty-to-hundred year aberration in the history of music.

Though I have no regard for Jay-Z’s “music”, I do have to admire his talent for making money and latching on to Beyonce. Now, why is this guy so popular?

I enjoy concerts AND purchasing new music. If Live Nation can figure out a new way to market music to all those kids who’ve never been in a record store, this could be the turnaround. I can hope, right?
